Annual EAASV EV Rally
Electric Vehicle Show & Rally
Saturday, September 24, 2011
Location: Palo Alto High School, Palo Alto, CA
(report by Ed Hunter, EBEAA Member)
It was a good rally this year. There were lots of commercially made electric vehicles this year unlike in the past. I must have seen 7 or 8 Nissan Leafs along with 2 Teslas, a Volt, a Sparrow and a Rav4 EV. There was some great EV conversions too. I really liked that 1950's red convertible Porsche Speedster!
They also had some nice electric motorcycles too. From custom builds from the ground up to a hub motor conversion with Thundersky type lithium batteries. Also present was the Lightning, the fastest North American production bike with a 415 volt battery pack.
I also liked the wacky custom builds like the trike bike with the solar panel canopy and the Saturn EV, also with a large solar canopy. There was another trike that looked like a superbly built aluminum turrent. One booth had two electric surf boards with jet drives that it's owners were busy working pretty hard on.
Overall the show was a success. There were enough people around where I found myself waiting in line to ask a question at every car or booth I went to. I was sorry to miss out on the Tzero ride but, I did test ride a pedal-to-start electric bike, a different experience from what I'm used to.
