Electric Auto Association
East (SF) Bay EAA Chapter

Annual National EAA Meeting

Saturday, February 25, 2012

Location: Cupertino, CA

Participation: 60+ members

Our Chapter Meeting for February is superseded by our annual National Electric Vehicle Association Meeting. The meeting was held in the Oak Room Auditorium at HP in Cupertino (next to lobby of Building 48). This meeting focused on our State of the Union - reviewing the accomplishments of 2011, looking forward to the goals for 2012 and introduction of Electric Auto Association's National Board members.

The East Bay Chapter (our chapter) is still the 3rd largest of the 70+ chapters, dispersed around the world.

Highlights:

  • The EV of the Year went to Nissan for their Leaf production

  • 60% of membership now reads the e-copy of the Current Events magazine

  • Members have driven over 13.5 million miles of all-electric transportation

  • Lots of charging being installed, especially outside of California (in other states)

  • An electric pickup truck Lemon Juice broke into the 9 second performance (132 mph 1/4 mile)

  • The Rocket drag motorcycle pushed the record to 7.25 seconds, 185 mph in the 1/4 mile.

  • Plug-in America day was celebrated throughout the 50 states.

There were many Nissan Leaf EVs and Chevy Volt (Hybrid) vehicles in the parking lot, for people to see up close what is now available from the automakers.

It's also was a wonderful time to meet up with members from other Chapters around the SF Bay Area and those who were visiting from outside the area.
